We are delighted and proud to announce that Old Church Gallery Moore co-owner and resident artist, Deborah Johnston-Booker has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious 2016 Pro Hart Outback Art Prize, held in the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery, New South Wales.
Deborah’s work, the Serpent and the Blue Sky IX (pictured) is created with mixed media including a shed
snake skin on four canvasses mounted and framed behind museum standard Perspex.
The Serpent and the Blue Sky is a story of hope and regeneration. Snakes shed their skin each year and these shed skins have been gathered with leaves, feathers, twigs and earth used to symbolize rebirth and regeneration of the country. After suffering the effects of drought and fires this work represents hope that the rains will come and a green pick will appear
Deborah travels to Broken Hill this week for the announcement. We wish her the best of luck.
